Greetings and welcome to my channel, this video explains 7 steps I came up with for staring a backyard garden in Austin Texas.
My name is Matthew Wottrich, over the past two years staying at home, I’ve taken up the hobby of gardening. With this hobby, there is so much to learn, gardening as a science is called horticulture, and is a sub-discipline of biology, so naturally it isn’t easy to do, but it’s very worth it.
I’m a software engineer, and I love the outdoors. I’ve found that gardening is a really great hobby to get some exercise, fresh air, and a satisfying sense of progress with your plants. I highly recommend starting a garden if you are a white collar worker like myself. I believe humans were made to work a garden, I don’t think it’s natural for us to be inside all day on the computer.
I want to make sure I’m being honest though, gardening isn’t easy, its dirty and difficult work. Gardening also isn’t just for homeowners, in the past I’ve done patio gardening in containers – you can get started at your own pace and budget, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, that’s part of the learning process.
In this video i’ll be discussing garden zones, also called hardiness zones, and some other useful information that will help you get started with your backyard garden here in Texas, or really anywhere.
