I started my journey as a gardener because I was tired of overpaying for subpar basil, but I never could’ve imagined where the journey would take me. It’s common for gardeners to view their spaces as something they control and manage, but overtime it is obvious to see that it is a collaboration. I work together with my pollinators and beneficial insects, and provide food for them both by planting a variety of flowers, and not spraying pesticides on “pests” so that the beneficials have something to eat. I don’t use any chemical fertilizers or fungicides in the soil, so that the life in the soil food web can feed my plants. It’s not just a garden, it’s an ecosystem, and that foundational shift in thinking will likely lead you, like it did me, down a road of planting way more flowers, native plants, and varied species. The added benefit? Flowers look pretty awesome. #gardening101 #gardenadvice #gardeningadvice #gardeningforbeginners #sustainablegardening #growmoreflowers #growflowersnotlawns
